The Niagara Region – Affordable and Romantic

If your honeymoon dream includes a country bed and breakfast, majestic vineyards, or jaw dropping views of the most powerful waterfalls in North America with a bustling night life, the Niagara region could be a great choice. Situated just 17 Miles north of Buffalo, the Niagara region is host to sights and activities that will please any honeymooner, for a price that is virtually unbeatable. Return flights to Buffalo International Airport in the spring and summer months are incredibly affordable, on average ringing in around $350 per person. In addition to the low cost of travel, Hotels in this area are almost giving rooms away due to high competition in this recession economy.

Transportation

Renting a car is the way to go in this region due to its proximity to pristine country and vineyards, the ideal place to rent a vehicle would be at Buffalo International Airport upon arrival. The Canadian border is about a 25 minute drive away. Remember to bring your passports as new laws have been enacted requiring Canadian and American citizens to carry passports over the border.

Where to stay

The Niagara Falls Hilton Offers extremely affordable rooms in May and June. Prices for their city view rooms start at the giveaway price of $99 per night, for those looking for a bit more, you can upgrade to the Falls View and toss a Jacuzzi in there for $40 more. This is an ideal launch point for a Niagara Getaway.  Stay here for two or three  nights while taking advantage of the World class restaurants and casinos in addition to the numerous tours available.

After the bustle of the city, head over to Niagara on the Lake, which offers huge variety in terms of small B and B’s, most of these establishments will help you select a wine tour to fit your needs and price range. Make sure not to miss out on the fine dining found in town as many great restaurants have opened up in the past few years.

Activities

  • The most stunning way to see the falls is from the air and so the helicopter tour is a must do at $139 CAD for the ride of a lifetime. Flights last approximately 20 minutes and can be booked online or through your hotel concierge.
  • Several companies run short and long trips by boat around the falls and so depending on your interest in the history of the falls and water system you may choose between long and short options. For a short ride, hop onto one of the many Maid of the Mist tours which have been in operation since 1846. For longer trips the Hilton staff at the concierge desk will be more than happy to set you up on a day tour.
  • Feel like tossing a die? Don’t miss the stunning Falls View Casino or the Classic Casino Niagara
  • After relaxing in a bed and breakfast in the historic town of Niagara on the Lake, why not take a relaxing tour of a local winery, the standard tour will show the process from growing to bottling and visitors are encouraged to test the final product.
